On July 8, CHCCLI members and guests gathered at the Jonathan Club in Los Angeles to hear about “Surviving and Succeeding in Corporate America” from George Ramirez, SVP & Priority Bank Executive, Union Bank.
The event was made possible through the generous donation of White Memorial Medical Center, with remarks by Dr. Ray Morales, Vice President, Medical Affairs.
As the keynote speaker, George Ramirez shared his personal experiences and illustrated the importance of perseverance, as he outlined four critical areas for:
“Surviving and Succeeding in Corporate America” I. Consistency · Ensure a high quality work product · Be the “go to person” · Be fair in your decisions and in how you deal with people · Be a coach to others · Be dependable II. Discipline · Always negotiate to achieve “win/win” solutions · Spend adequate time preparing for meetings, presentations, etc. · Follow up with colleagues, direct reports, and your manager · Prepare professional email responses, use spell check · Network inside and outside your company III. “Nobody Is Going to Die!” · Ask yourself: “When was the last time somebody died because of a decision I made?” This will help put decision-making into perspective. · Under difficult situations, can you laugh at yourself and make others laugh? · Seek critical feedback IV. Luck · Create your own luck · Be careful what you wish for · Choose the right life partner—their support is critical
